The presentation of the “Corpus of Georgian Dialects” will be held at the Conference Hall of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia on 6 February, 2014 at 18:00. The event is held within the framework of the National Library and Ivane Javakhishvili State University Arnold Chikobava Institute of Linguistics join project “Linguistic Portrait of Georgia”.
A series of meetings aiming at popularization of the Corpus of Georgian Dialects, as large-scale linguistic and cultural product, are planned for 2014. The unique texts recorded during expeditions, as well as audio and video materials will be presented during the meetings. The guests will learn about the importance of the Corpus and get acquainted with its members.
A series of meeting will be held for students, scientists, art specialists and interested public on a regular basis.The Corpus of Georgian Dialects is an information-research system based on modern technologies enabling to save, to describe and search any data subsystem of Georgian and other Kartvelian languages. Moreover, the model can be applied to any multiple language area description.
At present the corpus contains 1 453 325 words. Filling the text area continues. In terms of content, it includes various authentic texts. Users are able to find people, history, cultural realities, migration routes and results, toponyms, proper names, memoirs about historical figures, culinary recipes, folklore variations, folk diplomacy and information about the relationship between the two nations.
