The Visit by the Delegation from Poland
 14/05/2009

On May 11-13 the official delegation from the Polish National Archives visited Georgia by invitation of the National Archive of Georgia. The members of the delegation were the Deputy Director of the Polish National Archives Barbara Berska and the Director of Warsaw National Archive Richard Woitowski. The delegation got acquainted with the documents relating to Poland that are preserved in the National Archive of Georgia.

On May 13 the delegation and their host the Director of the National Archive of Georgia visited the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia where they had talks with the Director General of the NPLG Boris Gagua.

It is to mention that this is not the first dialogue between these parties. In November 2007, the Director General of NPLG paid an official visit to Poland where he met the Director General of the Polish National Archives. Consequently, the Polish party passed to Boris Gagua the list of the Georgian cadets who served in the Polish army after the Soviet occupation of Georgia in 1921.

Another example of fruitful cooperation between Georgian and Polish parties is the project implemented by the NPLG with financial support from the Polish government in 2007. The project was aimed at scrutinizing the rare Polish books preserved at the NPLG.

After the talks on May 13, the guests had an opportunity to see Building 1 of the NPLG, the interior of which is painted by the famous Polish-Georgian artist Henryk Hryniewski, and the rare Polish books that are kept in the Rare Collections Department of the NPLG.
