The article of T. Khintibidze "The Existential Status of Art in H. Marcuse's Philosophy" presents Marcuse's standpoint on the essence of art (according to his works "Eros and Civilization", "An Assay of Liberation", "Art as a Form of Reality").
Marcuse gives a special attention to imagination and fantasy in foundation of a non-repressive society; tries to change subordinate position of sensibility to reason; he calls for liberation of senses; to form a new subject with characteristics of "new sensibility" which should become a political power, affirming a new principle of reality. Marcuse calls the worlds of art and politics to be drawn nearer, which will lead to the abolition of power of politics.
Art as a form of reality appears as an outgoing idea for foundation a new type of art.
