The American peach Elberta has been introduced in Georgia about 1908-1910. In old catalogues (Avsarkissov, Pridonov, Khetaguri) its name is inserted in the recommendable assortment.
Presently Elberta is quite frequently met in the Sukhumi district and sometimes, in single trees found in the Caspi, Tbilissi and Gori districts.
It is a good table sort, valuable also for canning and drying.
The tree is vigorous in growth, heavy producer. Fruit large, handsomely coloured, ripens in midaugust, shipps well, when picked in an unripe condition, maturates during storage without losing its flavor. Elberta is admitted in the commercial assortment for the peach growing districts.
