Italian Prune

Italian Prune - Synonym: Fellenberg

The plum Italian was introduced in Sotchi from Germany at the end of last century, where from it spread widely all over the coast of the Black sea acquiring commercial importance.

The environment of the Gagri and Sukhumi districts proved to be especially suitable for this sort, where presently it is cultivated in continuous plantations.

In other districts (those of Gori, Dusheti, Tbilissi, Caspi) Italian Prune can be met in single trees, attesting to the possibility of this sort to prosper and perform well still in other localities .

The fruits stand shipping well, regardless of what they are for the most part dried, giving prunes o the best quality.

Yields are greatly impaired by fungus diseases.

Crop begins to ripen in the beginning of September (Abkhasia) but for drying harvest is protacted till 20 September.
