Large green
Recently a sort of figs was imported in Kakhetia, called „Large green“.
This sort is remarquable by the large size of its fruits.
Tree
Only young trees, 4-8 years old are met. As there are no old specimens we omit the description of the tree.
This sort gives two crops yearly, in the beginning and at the end of summer.
Fruit
The spring fruits, being especially large, have the shape of a jug and are very juicy, high in quality.
In order to get mature, spring fruits as well as summer fruits require caprification.
Summer fruits are elongated-spheric in shape, with a narrow neck and a wide basis; stem short, thick, greenish.
Skin pale-yellow, striped green.
Pulp under the skin thick, at full maturity very juicy.
Seeds yellowish, very large, all of them fertile.
Ripe fruits dry on the tree, what is quite common for all caprified fruits.
According to Eisen’s classification, the character of the large green fig fruits and of their maturation, determine the belonging of this sort to the Smyrna tipe.
This interesting new sort is certainly perspective for low Kakhetia, promising anexcellent material or the drying industry.
