Red Astrakhan

Red Astrakhan

Red Astrakhan has been introduced in Georgia long time ago but has not been commonly cultivated. Single trees can be met everywhere in Georgia, in the highland as well as in the lowland.

The fruit is of medium size, round, slightly flattened in shape. The covering colour is red with a waxen bloom.

Flesh friable, rather tender and juicy, pleasantly acid, good in flavor.

Red Astrakhan ripens for use in August, being considered as a good Summer sort.

Early time of ripening, early bearing, unrequisitiveness to environment and a rather heavy productivity give Red Astrakhan the importance of a commercial sort.

It is allowed in the commercial assortment for regions of early horticulture in Georgia at the rate of 5-10%.
