Winter gold Parmain
Winter gold Parmain is common all over Georgia, but an especially high commercial importance it has gained in the horticultural districts of Karthalinia.
In old plantations Winter gold Parmain occupied an honorable place among other foreign sorts, making up to 10-15% while in modern plantations it has acquired still more room, up to 25-30%.
This sort is known among the population under the name of „Saffron“ or „Striped Saffron“.
Winter gold Parmain is one of the most valuable fall-winter commercial sorts, becoming in dependance upon different climate conditions either a typical fall sort or a typical winter one. In Kakhetia it is a typical fall sort; in high Karthalinia, Akhaltzikh and the district of Dushet it is a fall-winter, or rather even a winter sort.
Winter gold Parmain as a commercial sort, has the defect of being damaget by Rhynchiles bachus and Laspeyresio- pomonella, of giving a product impaired through bitterness, and of its fruits running small when bearing is plentifull.
The fruit of Winter gold Parmain is of medium size, rounded in shape, high-topped, of a golden colour with reddish stripes when fully ripe, slightly aromatic, pleasant in flavor; ready for use from the beginning of September; keeps till late in winter.
The merits of Winter gold Parmain are: early bearing, heavy and regular productivity, high quality and attractive appearence of fruit, unrequisitiveness to environment and a comparatively sufficient resistance to fungus diseases.
