Olivier de Serres
Olivier de Serres

The pear Olivier de Serres is met only in Eastern Georgia, and even there not frequently in single specimens.

Fruit

Fruit is very small, oval flattened in shape, resembling in reduction that of Esperen’s Bergamotte; surface uneven, skin firm, at harvest maturity greenish gray, when fully ripe straw-yellow, scattered with grayish brown dots, often with spots of russet at the base and pit as well, sometimes blushed on the sunny side.

Tree

Tree of medium growth, very requistive to environment, rather hardy, succeeding well on the quince; blooming early, flowers self-sterile; fruits not easily injured by scab, keep till spring; stand shipping well.

In warm, protected from windy locations, on rich, structural soils Olivier de Serres gives very good results.

It must be recommended for commercial growing in many districts of Eastern Georgia.
