Clairgeau’s Beurré

Trees of the pear Clairgeau’s Beurré can be met in single specimens in the horticultural districts of Karthalinia, and together with those of Curate in a small orchard at Mukhrani, while elsewhere in Georgia only in the quality of a pomological rarity.

Fruit

Fruit is very large, elongated pyriform, symmetrical.

Skin at full maturity is one half bright red, the other straw yellow, beautiful in colour.

Flesh white, melting, half juicy, sweetish acid. Under unfavorable conditions of nourishment the fruit becomes rough, astringent, grained. The flavour of Clairgeau’s Beurré makes it fall into the third group of used at home sorts.

Tree

Tree weak with a pyramidal top, cold resistant; blooming early, flowers self-sterile; bearing early; productivity rather heavy, fruits dropping easily.

Considering the weak growth of the Clergeau’s Beaurré tree, double working on the quince is advisable. Clergeau’s Beurré is a decorative amateur sort.
