Cox’s orange reinette

Cox’s orange reinette is a very popular sort in the horticultural districts of Georgia, though the rate of its distribution among other foreign sorts is not high. Being rather requisitive to environment and care, and comparatively little resistant to fungus diseases, this sort is not frequently cultivated even in amateur orchards.

Cox’s reinette is for the most part found in the Karthli horticultural districts while elsewhere in Georgia only its single specimens can be seen.

The fruit is of medium size, round elongated, sometimes even flattened in shape; ground colour yellowish–green with red interrupted stripes. Flesh firm, but grained. As to flavour, Cox’s reinette belongs to the first rate sorts. Its keeping and shipping qualities are sufficiently good.

The high quality of fruits, early bearing, heavy productivity are the merits of Cox’s reinette.

The valuable peculiarities of this sort caused its admittance to the commercial assortment of many countries.

In Georgia it is given access only to the commercial assortment for young orchards in the middle zone of the Karthli central horticultural region.
