Gvina legvi (Winy fig)

Everywhere on the right bank of the river Alazan is cultivated a sort of figs Gvina legvi.

Tree

The tree is of a vigorous growth, high-topped, with dense branches.

Leaf small, three lobed, with equally developed lobes covering the sinuosities, what makes itlook entire.

Fruit

Gvina legvi gives two crops yearly, Guda fruits and summer fruits.

Guda fruits are elongated, ribbed, with a thick skin and uneverly ripening parts, because of what not perfectly edible.

Summer blossom clusters contain abnormal female flowers among which are scaltered some few male flowers. Seeds of the spring fruits are not fertile.

Summer Gvina legvi fruits are larger than spring ones; they are elongated-rounded in shape, with a narrow neck ending by a lignified stem.

Skin verythin,when fully ripe does not readily separate from the pulp, ressembling a thin film.

Colour winy-red, wherefrom derives the name of the sort.

Interior of the fruit pale pink, very sweet, with a peculiar aroma and pleasant bitterness.

Gvina legvi is a veryproductive sort, giving a comparatively valuable product for curret use and therefore designed to occupy its due place in the assortment.
