Napoleon (apple cultivar)
The apple Napoleon is probably of Italian origin.
This beautiful commercial sort is distributed in the southern regions of Europe.
In our country Napoleon is met as single trees in Karthli but in Abkhasia it has commercial importance. In new plantations it is not cultivated.
The Fruit is very beautiful, medium in size, symmetrical, high-topped, narrowing towards the base. Surface sometimes ribbed, what is especially pronounced at the base and near the neck. The fruit is weakly attached because of why gets easily blown off by the wind. It has good shipping qualities and does not shrivel in storage.
Skin tender, even, thin, lustrous. Ground colour greenish-yellow, when fully ripe becomes lemon-yellow, blushed on the sunny side.
Flesh white, very tender, with pleasant flavour and aroma. Harvest maturity is attained in November, but fruit keep well till Spring without losing their flavor.
The tree of Napoleon is rather frost resistant, grows well, developing in a vigorous, pyramidal shape; foliage dense; bearing early; fruiting abundant, though with a clearly expressed periodicity.
The tree is very requisitive to environment and for being productive it needs good agricultural engineering. Its requisitiveness does not allow Napoleon to become a largely commercial sort. In the amateur assortment it occupies the first place.
