Noble yellow

Noble yellow is common enough in Georgia. Old trees are mostly met in Karthli and there are also single trees in Kakhetia and Akhaltzikh.

The fruit is very large, round spherical, sometimes high-topped, with a weak stem, causing its easy dropping.

Skin oily, of a straw-yellow colour, when overmature quite yellow, with a golden tint on the sunny side.

Beautifully coloured, the fruit has a pleasant strong aroma. It is not susceptible to scab, but suffers much from Laspeyresia pomonella.

Flesh friable, roughly grained, juicy, sweet, slightly acid.

Crop ripens in August; fruit keep till December.

The peculiarities of this sort are: vigorous growth with long fruit bearing twigs, rather high requisits to environment, variable productivity in dependence upon environment and care, hardiness to gold, blossoms well standing spring frosts, self-sterile, bearing late, heavy setting of fruits but insignificant yeilding caused by the easy dropping of fruits and damages caused by Laspeyresia pomonella.

Noble yellow is a good amateur sort, though not included in the commercial assortment for new plantations; in some regions even Champagne reinette is double worked on old trees of Noble yellow.
