Orleans reinette

Orleans reinette is known in Georgia under the name of Winter gold Saffron.It is widely distributed in Akhaltzikh producing there highly qualitied fruits (Benar sovchos), while in Karthalinia it suffers much from scab, the fruits cracking and the cracks sheltering different fungus what greatly impaires the product in quantity and quality.

In old plantations Orleans reinette holds a less important place than other sorts, while in new orchards it is allowed at the rate of 10%.

The fruit is of medium size, fresh, oval-flattened in shape, when fully ripe golden-yellow in colour, tinted red, scattered with conspicuous drown dots, sometimes too with spots of russet, and covered all over with a grayish white bloom.

Flesh firm, sweet, pleasantly acid, at full maturity slightly aromatic. Fruit keep till April.

Early bearing, regular productivity, and the high quality of the product make this sort largely commercial.

Oleans reinette is a good sort for shaping. It is selfteril; its crosspollination with Winte gold Parmain is especially successful.
