Shalach

Shalach - it is an Armenian sort of apricot, widely distributed in Armenia, and very valuable for canning and for use in fresh condition.

In Georgia it is not very common, being met only in single trees.

Recently has been admitted in the standart assortment and given place in the nurseries to a considerable extent.

Tree

Tree very vigorous, whith a wide, round open top.

Blooming early, what makes yielding unstable.

Fruit

Fruit very large, elliptical in shape, with a slightly elongated base and round depressed apex. Skin rather thick, firm, slightly pubescent, light yellow in colour, sometimes slightly blushed on the sunny side.

Pulp of an average firmness, slightly fibrous, very sweet, acidulate, aromatic, very pleasant in flavor. Even overmature fruits are not mealy.

This sort is easily injured by Monilia though sufficiently resistant to Clasterosporium.

Shalach is a perspective sort for apricot growing districts of Georgia.
