Sinap Kandil
Sinap Kandil is introduced in Georgia from Crimea and can be met only in Eastern Georgia, where among the population carries the name of „Kandil“. Not being widely distributed, this sort grows better in Kakhetia and Akhaltzikh, whilst it has gained more commercial importance in Karthli.
Sinap Kandil succeeds well only in warm regions, well protected from wind, as its fruits are very large with a weak stem, making it drop easily.
The fruit is very beautiful cylindrical in shape, narrowing towards the calix, beautifully coloured, very showy, attractive, good in flawour.
Fruits ripen for harvest in the middle of September and keep till spring.
Sinap kandil is distinguished by the following biological characteristics: vigorous vegetative growth, top narrow, pyramidal, dense in the younger age, late bearing (15-17 years old), abundant productivity, high requisits to environment. This may account for the fact of Sinap Kandil remaining always an amateur sort in Georgia and in new plantations being nowhere cultivated.
