In low Kakhetia a sort of fig is widely distributed known under the name of Shashalaka. It reminds of another sort also very common in high Kakhetia, called Gvina legvi, but differing from the latter in shape and flavor of fruits.

The tree is very vigorous, often with a pyramidal top.
Leaf medium in size, fivelobed, with nearly equally developed lobes.

Shashalaka gives only one summer crop yearly, its fruits maturing without caprification.
Fruit medium in size, 3,5 cm. high, 4 cm. wide.
Skin reddish, striped blue, by transparence yellow.
Pulp under the skin whitish-pink, rather thick.
Interior of the fruit pale red, with few seeds.
The fruit is very pleasant in flavor, aromatic and mawkish-sweet.
This sort is very productive.
As the fruits of Shashalaka legvi run small they are not usable for drying remain acceptable for table and preserving.
