Sinap Sary
Sinap Sary is one of the commercial sorts of Georgia introduced at the end of the XIX centure. It is largely distributed in Eastern Georgia, especially in Karthalinia, and relatively less in Akhaltzikh. In other districts Sinap Sary is met in the quality of a pomological rarity. Though fruits of Sinap Sary have not the stem weak, they drop easily when yeild is heavy, especially if the location is windy.
For young plantations it is allowed in several districts at the rate of 5-10%.
The fruit is of medium size, cylindrical in shape, symmetrical. Young trees give small fruits what can be accounted through the strong aggressive physiological process going on the tree. When older, trees of a moderate vegetative growth give relatively large fruits, peculiar to the sort.
The appearance of the fruit is not attractive. It is a yellowish ground colour, covered with the characteristic for this sort reddish violet interrupted stripes. The flesh is white, firm, sweet.
According to its appearance Sinap Sary belongs to the coarse sorts, its product being called „barrel goods“.
The crop is harvested in the beginning of October. Fruit is kept until summer.
The biological peculiarities of this sort are: vigorous vegetative growth of the young tree, late bearing (after 12-14 years), abundant productivity, periodicity of fruiting, late and protracted blooming, self-steril flowers, for which Sinap Kandil is considered as a good pollinator, hardiness, unrequisitiveness to environment.
Sinap Sary gives heavy yeilds of good quality only under conditions of attentive management and suitable environment.
