The sour cherry cultivation has not much extension in Georgia.

In commercial plantations the greatest part of trees belongs to local sort, whereas European and Russian sorts are met seldom, only in collections.

Now and then some Amorels are found under the name of Shpanka, as well as hybrids between sweet and sour cherries.

The sour cherry prospers well on light solls, stands drought but does not resist to excessive moisture in the soil.

Local sorts are propagated by root sprouts, others by grafting on the wild cherry and megalebl.

The product of local cherries is dried or used for preparing jam and sirops.

Some sort give unimportant yields which are used fresh at home.

In Georgia the sour cherry is damaged by Anthonomus druparum L., the larvae of which feed on seeds, what destroyes the fruits. Certain years the damage is so great as to impair considerably rthe quality of the product.

Among fungus diseases Sclerotina is the most frequently met, damaging, the sour cherry in its flowers, leaves and branches.
